Microfibre Cloths – Where to Use Them and Where Not?

23.04.2020

Did you know that microfibre is 100 times finer than a human hair? And what’s more: it’s also significantly finer than all natural fibres.

Much more important than this, however, is its outstanding cleaning efficiency. Tightly woven microfibre fabric contains countless tiny gaps that can trap even the smallest dirt particles.

This allows many cleaning tasks to be completed much faster. In a nutshell, cleaning staff can clean faster and more effectively with microfibre cloths.

This makes microfibre one of the most practical cleaning innovations of modern times. Microfibre cloths and mops in particular have enjoyed enormous popularity among professional cleaning services since the late 90s.

Suitable Application Areas
Microfibre products are suitable for cleaning the following:

  • Windows
  • Glass
  • Mirrors
  • Sanitary facilities
  • Tables
  • Chairs
  • Cabinets
  • Desks
  • Floors
  • Chrome-plated steel surfaces

Unsuitable Application Areas
On certain sensitive surfaces, the dirt particles trapped in the microfibre cloth can causes scratches that damage the protective layer (oil) of the surface or give it a dull appearance. The following areas are NOT suitable for cleaning with microfibre products:

  • Oiled furniture or surfaces (e.g. parquet or wooden tables)
  • Waxed furniture and surfaces
  • Acrylic glass (e.g. tanning beds or shower walls)
  • Soft plastic surfaces
  • Surfaces with clear varnish or high gloss
  • Objects with a nanoparticle coating (e.g. kitchen cabinet doors)
  • Surfaces made of precious metals (e.g. silver or copper)

Three application tips
There are three things to keep in mind in order to keep your microfibre products in good condition and maintain outstanding cleaning results:

  1. Apply as little pressure as possible. Dirt is better removed from surfaces if the fibres are not pressed together.
  2. Microfibre products should never be used wet, but slightly damp. Only then can they be used to their full potential.
  3. Use special microfibre cloths to clean spectacles and screens. Many manufacturers offer special microfibre cloths with finer threads for cleaning sensitive surfaces such as these.

Advantages of Microfibre
These colourful cleaning aids offer the following advantages over other cloths:

  • reduced water and chemical consumption
  • low friction for ergonomic cleaning
  • no lint or fluff
  • highly absorbent (absorbs many times its own weight in water)
  • dirt is trapped in the microfibre cloth and not spread across the surface
  • suitable for removing water-soluble dirt and grease
  • streak-free cleaning results

How to Wash Microfibre Products Correctly After Use
You may already be familiar with our washing recommendations for microfibre products. Here is a recap of the most important points:

  • Wash microfibre products at max. 60 degrees Celsius.
  • Never wash microfibre products together with hook-and-loop mops.
  • Wash microfibre products separately (i.e. sorted by colour/application)
  • Never wash microfibre products together with cotton textiles
(cotton fibres can get stuck in the microfibre cloth)
