Vacuum cleaning/dry vacuum cleaning – a simple job that every cleaning professional is familiar with from their own home. Nevertheless, we often receive questions regarding this cleaning method. We have therefore provided answers to three frequently asked questions in this article.

Suction nozzles:
1) Which suction nozzle do I use and when?

All vacuum cleaners come with a standard suction nozzle. Whether it is the optimal suction nozzle for your needs depends on the application. Below are a few recommended suction nozzles for common applications:

Suction nozzles for dry vacuum cleaning:

  • Combination nozzle:
The standard nozzle for Wetrok’s dry vacuum cleaners (included in delivery) must be adjusted when the type of floor covering changes (e.g. when moving from areas with hard floor coverings to those with carpet); suitable for textiles and hard floor coverings.
  • Roller nozzle:
No need to adjust when the floor covering changes; suitable for all floor coverings (exception: high-pile carpets); also suitable for parquet flooring
  • Joint nozzle:
Ideal for hard to reach dirt in joints, corners, window frames and lift profiles.
  • Upholstery nozzle:
Ideal for lose dirt (e.g. hair) on upholstery, curtains or in cable ducts
  • Radiator nozzle:
Ideal for removing dust from between/behind radiators; round brush for optimal access to dirt
  • Brush nozzle:
Ideal for sensitive surfaces (e.g. wallpaper)
  • Universal brush nozzle:
Ideal for cleaning shelves, skirting boards and wall panelling; long and soft bristles

  • Turbo nozzle:
additional mechanics thanks to suction-powered brush roller; suitable for textile floor coverings and carpet (exception: high-pile and “Kugelgarn” carpets)
  • Pico jet nozzle:
Brush nozzle with integrated LED light for optimal lighting conditions in dark corners and under furniture; powered by electricity; suitable for textile floor coverings and carpet (exception: high-pile and “Kugelgarn” carpets)

Tip: Some suction nozzles are available in different sizes – larger models allow for more efficient cleaning of unobstructed surfaces.

Corded and cordless vacuum cleaners:
2. When should I use a battery-operated vacuum cleaner and when a traditional one?

The basic rule is this: A cordless vacuum cleaner is ideal whenever a high degree of flexibility is needed, while a traditional corded vacuum cleaner is better suited to larger, unobstructed surfaces due to its greater performance/operating time.

More specifically, a battery-powered vacuum cleaner is ideal for:

  • Areas with few sockets (no need to change sockets)
  • Entrance areas (no tripping hazard, no socket)
  • Obstructed rooms (no tangling)
  • Daytime cleaning during office hours (no tripping hazard)

Depending on the number of square metres, corded and cordless vacuum cleaners are equally suitable for all other areas. Our internal tests have shown that cleaning professionals cover roughly 60 square meters more per hour with cordless vacuum cleaners compared to corded ones.

Tip: A backpack-type vacuum cleaner is the best choice for heavily strongly obstructed rooms (e.g. cinemas, classrooms).

Filter bags:
3. Paper or non-woven filters – which is the better choice?

While paper filters are lower in price, filters made of non-woven fabric are a higher quality alternative. Non-woven filters are more tear resistant (e.g. when broken glass is sucked up), develop less odour, are less sensitive to moisture and easier to remove and replace. Conclusion: It depends on your individual prioritisation regarding price vs. quality.
